Desk lamp, yes. Floor lamp, no.
Simple functional styling should not become an excuse for poor product design. A few things need to be corrected.The lamp arrives with each piece sheathed in protective plastic. Well and good. I used a plastic letter slitter to remove the plastic, whose soft plastic tip gouged a permanent line across the base (photo). The finish and surface of the base should certainly be able to withstand a flexible plastic tip.I had some assembly trouble. The light head snaps into place on the gooseneck, but it doesn’t fit easily into place with a definite click or other indication of engagement. I spent a minute troubleshooting the absence of light from a fully assembled lamp before realizing that the head hadn’t fully mated with the gooseneck arm.Next, the electrical cord runs loosely up the pole. It is retained by three clips, but the result has the appearance of a home project, not a commercial product. Surely it ought to be possible to route the cable inside the pole or otherwise dress it professionally. I considered adding black cable ties every few inches, but I’m not sure how much that would improve its appearance.Finally, the cable is very short, so the lamp has to be located right next to an outlet or used with an extension cord. That’s disappointing. And as shown in the photo, the kinks and bends in the cable are unattractive. You’ll want to place this lamp somewhere unobtrusive.The night light is separate and independent. Both it and the main light panel can be illuminated simultaneously, if there’s some reason to want to.The good parts: the base seems stable, the light output is good, the gooseneck is suitably flexible, and the remote control does what you’d expect. Be aware that the infrared receiver is on the face of the lamp, so the remote control only works from a (wide) angle off the front.Updated Feb 8 2023:I repurposed it as a desk lamp, where it fits far better into the real world. The cord is arguably long enough, the flexibility of the head is a nice feature, it doesn't hog precious desk space, and there's plenty of light. No idea why it would need a remote control, but .... I gave it another star.
